Transactional Email Templates


This page will give you step-by-step instructions on how to create a template for Transactional Email.

You can design a template for your transactional emails. This is perfect for consistent, personalised messages. To navigate to your transactional templates, click Templates.


Composition Options

Click New to create a new template.


You can use either the Classic or Coder composition methods to build your templates.

  • Classic: Use the standard What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) interface to build your template.
  • Coder: The coder consists of a plain-text editor, a library of standard code which you can add to the email's code

Select a default template to edit. A preview of the selected template appears in the middle and a colour palette to customise colours on the right.

Once you have selected your template, click Next.

Template Composition

Composing your template is determined by the composition method selected. The first section to fill in template details will remain the same.

Transactional - Composition

  • Template name: A compulsory field for the name of your template.
  • Template subject: A compulsory field for the subject line.
  • Template description:  Not compulsory but gives an indication to you about what the template is about, e.g. Password Reset Template, First Quarter Newsletter.
  • From email: A compulsory field where you put in the email address that the email will be sent from.
  • Reply email: A compulsory field where you put in the email address that responses will be sent to.

You can edit the elements of the selected template to design your email, as well as insert personalisation. You can also upload a zip to customise your template.

We offer three options to preview your email before sending:

  • View Preview: This gives a live preview of the email.
  • Send Preview: This allows you to send a preview of the email to an email address of your choice.
  • Compatibility: This checks the compatibility of the email across multiple email clients like Outlook, Safari, Gmail, etc.

Once you are happy, click Next.

Set Up Tracking

The next screen is where you set all the options to track the email for reporting purposes.

  • Sending Options
    • Track Links Tracks all links in the email.
    • Track reads: Tracks the number of emails that have been opened/read.
    • Batch sending: Sends the emails as a batch rather than one at a time.
  • Grouping options
    • None: Groups the emails normally by date.
    • Subject: Groups the emails by subject.
    • Custom: Groups emails by your specified name. A text box will appear to enter a custom name.

Click Next when you are happy.


Confirmation is the last step before you can use the created template for your emails. Preview the final look, check that template details and tracking options are satisfactory. Once you are happy with the email, click Save and close or click Back to edit your template.

You will be able to send a transactional email with this template through an email client using SMTP settings once this feature is activated. We will keep you updated.

Sending Using Templates

To send a transactional SMTP email using templates, you need to specify our SMTP server, and select a template to send.

To use a specific template while sending, the template must be selected using tags in the subject or email header:

  • Via Subject: Dummy Subject {{trans-template-id:1}}
  • Via Header: trans-template-id:1

The message you send our server can contain personalisation variables in the html meta tags:
