How to Guide: The Builder

Creating emails that are visually appealing and professional, without any form of design training, may seem like an impossible task. Everlytic brings the solution to you in the form of the Builder.

The Builder is an easy-to-use email creation tool. Its simple drag-and-drop interface gives you all the tools you need to create the perfect email.

Accessing the Builder

You can access the Builder in the first step of email composition.  Click Messages > Create Email to navigate to the email wizard.

This brings up the email composition options. Everlytic offers various tools for you to create emails; from easy drag-and-drop, to in-depth coding.

In this guide, we will take a look at the first option: The Builder.

Click the Builder icon to begin.

Template Selection

The beauty of the builder lies in its easy-to-use template system. Everlytic offers 60 templates across 12 categories including Agriculture, Business, Lifestyle, and Technology. The Previous Message category allows you to use a previously sent email as a template.

The first step is selecting a template that appeals to you and your target audience. The wide selection of templates makes it easy to find something along the lines of what you are looking for. Remember, this is just a template and you can customize it afterwards.

Basic Customization of Template

Once you have selected your theme, you can modify some of the colours that appear on the template. This is not the in-depth customization yet, but the colour scheme of your email for the selected template.

Palettes give you pre-set colours to use. The system has a number of colour combinations for you to use. You can choose a palette, or customise to your exact requirements.

Click Next when you are happy with the colour scheme.

Message Properties: Preparing the Email Details

Message properties are the finer details of the email you are about to send. You also differentiate this particular email from any you have previously sent.

For more information on message properties, see our Create Email: Message Properties guide.

Click Next when you are happy with the details.

Building The Email: Drag-and-Drop Interface

Building your Email is where the magic happens, where you get to delve into the details and create the email. There are two customization levels available for your email:

  • Layout
  • Content

The layout tab of the design allows you to select the number of columns you wish to add to your email. Each column can then be changed into content.

Simply click and drag the layout option into the email and place it at your desired location. Once placed you will have the ability to move, duplicate, or delete the layout you added. You are also able to add as many column objects as necessary anywhere on the email.

When deleting a layout element, a notification will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. Do note that you cannot undo this action once you’ve confirmed.

The content tab allows you to add elements to your email.

  • Button: Adds a button to your email.
  • Divider: Adds a line division to your email.
  • Image: Allows you to add your own images into the email.
  • Text: Allows you to add text to your email.

Click the Customise tab to adjust the colours on your email.

  • Colours: Select colours for specific areas on your email including page background, content background, title, button and text.
  • Palettes: Select from pre-existing colour palettes.

All of the elements listed are drag-and-drop. To add content, you drag in a layout element for a place holder. Next you drag your selected content into the place holder.

Re-sizing images can be a bit tricky. Follow these steps as a guide.

  • Edit the image

  • Find the image in your uploads. Right Click and find the re-size option.

  • It saves the image with a new name after re-sizing.
  • Delete original image.
  • Insert object with new size.

  • Edit Text

Personalisation options are available on the WYSIWYG editor when editing your text. Personalization allows you to add content about your contacts that would make the email more personal, such as the contact’s name or surname.

Remember: Personalisation information is pulled from your List. If you do not have that field in your list, this will not work as it should. To fully utilize the Personalization aspect of the Builder, gather as much information about your contacts as possible. Explore the different options available for the best way to personalize all your emails.

You can now test your email’s spam score and compatibility across email clients. To access the testing options, click Test.

Everlytic offers the following built-in testing tools on every email:

  • Spam score: This checks your email for elements that would classify it as spam when sending it to your contacts.
  • Compatibility: This checks the compatibility of your email across various email, web and mobile platforms, with details of what may cause your email not to be compatible with the displayed platforms.
  • Send Test: This allows you send a test email so you can preview what your contact will receive.
  • Preview: This gives you a live preview of the final email.

Click Next when you are happy with the details.

Delivery Options

Delivery Options is a set of options that define what happens after sending your email. These include: Sending options, tracking options, footer settings, social media, message approval, schedule messages and message intervals.

For more information about these options, see Step: 4 Delivery Options

Click Next when you are happy with the details.

Review and Confirmation

This is the final step to ensure you are happy with your email and the delivery details. It gives you a preview of the email, the message properties, the overview of how many contacts will receive the email, as well as the size of the email. Remember, the size of your email is important; the smaller the size, the quicker it loads, the less annoyed your clients will be when waiting for an email to open.

Rather than Next, you have two new options.

  • Trigger Set Up allows you set a trigger for when the email should be sent, such as the contact’s birthday.
  • Send will either send the email out to your contacts immediately, according to the trigger, or according to the schedule send date.
