How We Calculate Contact Activity

In the Message Summary for List Reporting we look at the activity recorded for your database over the past three months. We define 'engagement' as the number of individuals in a specific list who have read a mail or clicked a link in the past three months.

So, if you have a database of 100 active subscribers and 59 of them have interacted with your message over the past three months, then your engagement rate is 59%. These 59 people wouldn't necessarily be the same individuals that read your mails on a regular basis.

If John reads a mail today but doesn't read again for the next three weeks, he'll still be considered as part of the 59% engagement rate as he interacted within the three-month time frame.

This differs from message reporting where we give you an average read or click rate per message, where you may have sent to three or four lists simultaneously. Always keep in mind that many people that have read a specific mail may not read others.

Even if you're getting an average of 16% read rate every message, you don't want to remove the non-readers, as they may be reading or clicking links in your other messages.

Now you have a better understanding of the engagement of your individual lists and not just per message.

From engagement reporting, you'll be able to deduce whether you have a database that finds your information informative and meaningful, or not. This will help you decide on possibly changing your layout, design, or content to increase interaction, or at the very least, know which list performs better than the rest.

Open and Link Activity

Click Open and Link Activity on the list reports menu to access detailed reporting. This report shows you how many of your subscribers are reading and clicking links in your emails. The summary of opens and link clicks lets you view the average read and click-through rates per message campaign. You can switch between the Opens and Clicks tabs.

Opens

Reading statistics for each campaign sent to the list are shown here. They can be compared to previous campaigns to determine reading trends across your lists. The following information is available in this tab:

DescriptionDetails
DateThe date the message was sent.
SubjectThe message/campaign subject.
Total OpensThe total number of times the message was opened, tracking multiple opens per subscriber.
Unique OpensThe number of unique opens the message received, tracking one unique open per subscriber.
Inferred OpensThe number of inferred opens recorded on the message.

Inferred Opens

Some servers block image tracking methods required for recording opens. When an open query is not received but the contact clicks a link within the mail, the system infers that the contact has opened the email. Even though a read report wasn’t sent to the system, the contact must have opened the mail to be able to click a link inside the mail.An inferred open is unique because it's only tracked once.

Clicks

Each campaign sent to the list is shown here. They can be compared to previous campaigns to determine clicking trends across messages. The following information is available in this tab:

DescriptionDetails
DateThe date the message was sent.
SubjectThe message/campaign subject.
Total Link ClicksThe total number of link clicks received, tracking multiple link clicks per subscriber.
Unique Link ClicksThe number of unique link clicks the message received, tracking one unique click, per link, per subscriber.

Domain Reports

View statistics and compare domains being accessed by the active contacts on that list. The top-ranked domains for your active contacts are listed, allowing you to determine which domains you send to the most or which online email clients rank higher. You can tailor HTML designs to be compatible for your most popular domains for contacts that predominantly receive mail in Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail. You can also identify and export the domains making up the bulk of your delivery base and prioritise delivery issues affecting these domains.

Location Reports

Click Location reports under List reports to access detailed reporting.

Location is tracked by the last known IP address based on contact activity and you can switch between the Map and Satellite views.

The world map pinpoints locations for message activity as indicated by the circular markers, and indicates how many contacts are active (read a mail or clicked a link) in that location. You can drill-down by clicking the map and the country of interest to pinpoint cities and locations.

The number of contacts per location is also shown in a table beneath the map.

You can export this information by clicking the Export button for each table.

Subscription Activity

Click Subscription Reports under List reports to access detailed reporting.

The summary displays statistics for subscribe and unsubscribe activity on the list. The total number of contacts, subscribed and unsubscribed is shown in a table. Graphs reflect subscribe and unsubscribe rates as well as any active growth on the list. You can filter results by the date.

Contact Activity

This report shows you the percentage of contacts in this list who are active vs. inactive.

List Activity shows the total number of contacts on the list, the total percentage of interactive contacts, and percentage of non-interactive contacts.

The table shows all individual non-interactive contacts and their basic details.
