Triggers are automatic responses set for email recipient actions. Use triggers in conjunction with autoresponders.
You can use triggers to create automatic actions based on a message that you've sent to your subscribers. For example, if you have an RSVP link in your mailer, you can create a trigger to automatically send a confirmation mail to everyone who clicks the link.
To navigate to the Triggers list, click Triggers > Set up Triggers.
You can preview your existing triggers on the Triggers page. Existing triggers are shown on the left. When you click the trigger's name, the preview will show on the right. The preview shows the trigger's properties and an event log (the activity on the trigger and the contacts who performed those actions).
To create a trigger, click New in the Action Bar.
You can set up the trigger once you've created your message. To do this, click Setup triggers in the Action Bar during the confirmation step of the message creation process. Please note: If you select this option, you can only set up triggers for unique reads and unique link clicks.
In the Properties tab, you'll need to give the trigger a name, description and set the status.
|Name||A unique name for your trigger.|
|Description||A short detail about the trigger.|
|Status||Whether the rigger is active or not. By default it is set to "On"|
Click the Event options tab to set the actions that will trigger your event, or an autoresponder based on something a contact does. The drop-down list has a number of options to select from.
Click the Event actions tab to choose the action that needs to be performed.
This determines what action to take when a contact clicks a link, opens your email, unsubscribes, and so on. The following actions are available:
Click the Send autoresponder radio button. Use the drop-down menu to select the autoresponder you want to send. Set the required time, in minutes, in which to send the autoresponder. For example, if your autoresponder is a welcome letter that needs to be sent to a new contact who has subscribed, you can choose to send the autoresponder 10 minutes after the user subscribes.
You can choose to have autoresponders deleted when a contact unsubscribes or complains. They will then not receive additional responses.
You can use this function if you'd like to update the status of the contact. Click the Contact action radio button and choose the action to take for the contact. You can subscribe, unsubscribe, send confirmation, and change a contact's status to 'Off' or 'Always send'. You'll need to assign lists where applicable (i.e. subscribe, unsubscribe, and send confirmation). Use the Perform action on contact drop-down menu to specify the type of contact for this action. You can apply the action to email contacts or mobile contacts.
You can use this function to collect data about your contact's activity on your own systems. When the client triggers the external action, it accesses a URL that contains data you set up using the personalisation tags. Click the External Action radio button and insert the URL into the text box. You can apply personalisation tags to the link by clicking the Personalise link icon below the text box. Make sure you save your trigger by clicking Save.
